Lust Stories 2 is a Hindi-language anthology film released in 2023, which deals with the themes of desire and human emotions as well as sensitivity. It also aims to continue the narrative that was explored in Lust Stories (2018) by delving further into relationships through four short films. This anthology has stories from different directors— R. Balki, Konkona Sen Sharma, Sujoy Ghosh, and Amit Ravindernath Sharma.
Synopsis
The film’s story structure consists of four interrelated narratives covering various aspects of intimacy, relationships, socio-culture constructs, and contemporary mores
Made for Each Other – This segment begins with a modern couple, Arjun (Wed to Angad Bedi) marrying Veda (Mrunal Thakur). In this narrative directed by R. Balki, their preparation for the wedding encounters challenges as conflict between generations set an expectation. From premarital sexual compatibility checks to embracing traditions alongside individual freedoms, there certainly is much ground to laugh about courtesy Veda’s grandmother bringing a refreshing honesty into tradition.
The Mirror – Konkona Sen Sharma depicts this film as a profound reflection among the four selected for examination. Isheeta (Tillotama Shome), known to lead an independent and solitary life in Mumbai, is disrupted when she learns that her housemaid Seema (Amruta Subhash) has some intimate relations in her absence. Rather than confronting the issue head on, Isheeta chooses to quietly study these interactions, catalyzing perverse longings within herself. This narrative brilliantly addresses class and gender issues alongside sexual agency and voyeurism. It probes the realms of intimacy and the unarticulated intricacies of feminine desire.
Sex with Ex – Directed by Sujoy Ghosh delving into psychological thriller plots comes this story. A woman rescues Vijay Varma’s character form an accident who is later revealed to be his ex-wife Shanti Bhatia, supposedly dead for years. Such a bizarre coincidence brings forth emotions that one may assume are closed off forever. Blurring lines with reality, this segment revolves around suspense tugging at its seams.Within those emotional currents lies guilt intermingled with agony and trauma woven throughout their strained bond slowly revealing itself.
Tilchatta – Directed by Amit Ravindernath Sharma, the film set in a feudal royal household , tells the story of Devyani Singh (Kajol) who is trapped in an abusive marriage with a controlling husband Suraj Singh (Kumud Mishra). The story is a stark revelation of marital rape, abuse of power, and social apathy towards domestic violence. Devyani’s journey from trauma to her metamorphosis into a woman wanting to seize justice encapsulates the feeling of this segment.

IMDb Ratings and Critical Reception
Lust Stories 2 has received a positive reception from audiences and critics alike with a diverse spectrum of feedback. It holds an IMDb rating of 5.8 out of 10, which indicates blended perspectives of its thematic execution and story pacing.
Admittedly, the film has received praise for its unconventional yet intriguing approach to dealing with taboo subject matter and challenging morality through bold storytelling that defies mainstream ethics. Among the four segments, it is competing in Sen’s The Mirror segment that is noted stand out most for striking layered storytelling coupled with the gripping performance brought forth by Sen herself; who alongside Tillotama Shome and Amruta Subhash was praised ld for emotional depth portraying characters some sharacteristic enduring complex feel.”
R. Balki’s Made for Each Other has garnered attention for its humor and a modern take on relationships as well as generational outlooks. Gupta’s grandmaternal role is comical but she earnestly encourages sexual autonomy, which is delightfully enchanting.
Sujoy Ghosh’s Sex with Ex has received a more divided response. The chemistry between Vijay Varma and Tamannaah Bhatia is compelling, but some viewers were left wanting more out of the twist-based narrative. It attempts to blend psychological tension with emotional drama but struggles to fully integrate both.
Amit Ravindernath Sharma’s Tilchatta has been praised for addressing complex needs such as marital abuse alongside other gendered forms of oppression. Kajol delivers a visceral performance portraying a woman battling an identity crisis fiercely embodies the anguish intertwined with fortitude in her struggle for self-reclamation.
Final Thoughts
In Lust Stories 2, as in previous installments of the anthology, the directors aim to confront taboo topics that are not often addressed in Indian cinema. While all contributions are different, they explore human dynamics in relation to desire, power, and agency through diverse lenses. Not each segment evokes the same emotion or resonance, yet there is no denying that this anthology pushes boundaries of contemporary discourse centered on love, lust, and freedom.
Such films explore underrepresented topics in contemporary Indian cinema, making them viscerally relevant and culturally important.
